Empowering the LGBTQ+ Community & How to Enhance Allyship

Embracing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging is at the heart of P&G Good Everyday’s mission. Together, let’s celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and explore how P&G advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, equality, and inclusivity. Plus, learn five powerful ways to become an ally and support the LGBTQ+ community.

As one of the world’s largest advertisers, P&G has a responsibility to represent people accurately and authentically, without bias, through our brand campaigns. Now in its 7th year, Crest’s annual Smile with Pride campaign has been promoting the importance of allyship with the simple but effective message, “Allyship Starts With a Smile”. This year, Crest partners with six influencers who share their personal stories about how acceptance and smiles from allies have impacted them in key moments of their lives.

In addition to brand campaigns, P&G actively supports LGBTQ+ communities through partnerships and programs. Crest has long supported organizations like Pride Toronto and The 519 - an organization that works to protect and celebrate LGBTQ+ people of all ages and ethnicities all across Canada. Each year, the Toronto Pride parade brings together hundreds of P&G employees, family, friends, dental professionals, and influencers to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

Join us! Let’s come together as allies and advocates for diversity and inclusion today and every day. Here’s how you can help turn pride into action 365 days a year:

1. UNDERSTAND

Work to gain a better understanding of the experiences, identities and the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Seek out stories that share those experiences. We recommend checking out Pride @ Work for resources.

2. LISTEN AND AMPLIFY

Listen to the voices and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. Give them a safe space to share their stories and perspectives. Use your platform to amplify their voices. Share their stories, highlighting their achievements and promoting their work.

3. USE INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE

Be conscious of the words you use, and do not use derogatory or offensive language. Respect people’s chosen pronouns and gender identities. Make an effort to use inclusive language in your daily conversations so everyone feels seen, heard and accepted.

4. SUPPORT LGBTQ+ ORGANIZATIONS

Donate your time, skills, or resources to local LGBTQ+ organizations or community centers. Offer your support through volunteering, fundraising, and/or advocating for these causes.

5. SHOW UP

Participate in LGBTQ+ events year round and show visible support in your professional and personal life. Attend marches, parades, or other LGBTQ+ community celebrations with family, friends, or colleagues.

Being an ally is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time action. It requires continuous education, empathy, and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Let's work together to ensure our communities are inclusive and accepting. This is the type of place we all deserve to live in.
